we have just been wake-surfing with vagelis, it was really good and everyone got up for at least half a second (george), clark was (yet again after the windsurfing) one of the best. whilst we were waiting we went snorklling and found 4 or 5 anchors .. unfortunately we cannot find the link for the windsurfing video.

hi,
we have been conducting a series of scientific experements. how big does a ice cream have to be before you get brain freeze... our results have proven un-reliable and more experementations will have to be undertacken...
we are just about to go wake surfing, it looks really hard...

Message from the coach

Dear parents,

Sorry for the delay of my feedback to you but I have been really busy this period and I was not able to.
So all my sailors are happy, healthy and productive as you may already know from the blog. They are working hard and by the same time they have fantastic time here.
Clare and Amy help me a lot.  Keeping the team motivated and happy is a tough job to do.
When I was preparing the training and I was thinking of the possible mobility sessions we could have I said to myself that it would be really boring to come to Greece and run around a track and field stadium. So I asked a friend of mine and we changed it to windsurfing lessons. The kids not only worked their core stability but without knowing they were learning the physics of the center of effort and resistance.it was much easier for me today to make them understand when to rake back or forward and the most important why.
The first day in the water was hard for me. I wanted to do so many things but the kids were lost in the beauties of my country. I was asking them what is their opinion about the trimming of their sail and they were telling me that they have never seen in their lives so green water. So after this morning, everything was taking shape later at our training.
I will not bother you with technical stuff I will just inform you quickly about what I had in mind and I what I finally did with them.
My main target was to train their senses and make them feel the speed of the boat. It’s impossible to do this in a high level, if is cold or windy, so my place was the perfect opportunity to try.
We defined which the sensors are and what kind of information we expect to get.so our face gives us information about the wind speed. We get also from the feel of the rudder of the mainsheet, and finally from our bum. So we worked a lot on that.
During the days we also improved our tacking, starting, upwind speed and downwind as well.
Our mark rounding’s are much better and we pay lots of attention to our upwind tactics with persistent weather conditions.
By the end of the clinic we will also work on our jibes downwind tactics trimming and we will see some rules about the start as well. I think is enough for four and a half days in the water.
I am trying to find a time gap to teach them how to wake surf which is fun and very good for the upper body.
By the time I write this to you all the team enjoys a play at the open air cinema after they tasted for the first time the Greek souvlaki.
The training is really tiring but productive I enjoy your kids a lot and I can’t wait for the next group to come. I will upload feedback and videos as soon as I will find some spare time.
See you…
the boats have just gone out a bit further with vagelis whilst me and clare stay in the water... mid-day till about 6:00 it is to hot to stay outside (you are either indoors or in the water) the children are coping well with the hot weather, a few funny tan lines, this is not just about the sailing, this is more about learning to cope with the different conditions from rainy old blighty... hat, sun-cream and water, water, water! they will be racing this afternoon :]
we have been trying the local cousine...

Sunday, 3 June 2012

the computer seems to think it is sunday when infact it is monday, gentle breeze from the north, wall to wall sunshine. sailors are watching some video's of there efforts.

This is a really good "learning experience" (as clare put it). Dealing with the heat and the different sailing conditions is tricky hopefully this will be a good preparation for Hungary.the boats are good, most are blue blue, all in great condition, it is just up to the sailors now.we went for waffles last night, sorry we for got our camera, it was amazing, everyone had a ice cream and waffle with some type of sugary topping, the largest was eaten by max.. two scoops of ice cream, a waffle the size of his plate, chocolate coated banana,(which he thought was one if his 5 a day) with more chocolate sauce and powdered sugar! george nearly died with anticipation for his waffle, when it arrived he though christmas had come early, it was fantastic. me and emma couldn't finish ours the boys wondered if they could fit another one in...

goodmorning,
no windsurfing this morning because we are wakeboarding in the evening, at lunch we are going out to the island to go snorkelling (we have bought them all a mask and breathing tube), we have a bit more wind today, but the greek team are not here, they are at school and will be finished at 1:00. at the  appartments there are many cats, one of them has 5 or 6 kittens that live in a bush and  hide in a pipe. they had actimel and scrambled egg for breackfast.
everyday at 9:00 in the morning we have a windsurfing lesson with a guy called king, i think he lives on a board, he is amazing at windsurfing and paddle boardin, we will be back tommorow at 9:00.. till then...

and today's lunchtime activities at the club..

on arrival...

here are some pictures of the flight.

hey, i am just up-loading some amazing photos, we went snorcalling today, there were exotic fish everywhere you looked and i saw a octopuss, all you have to do is keep out look out for urchins. the sailors are just coming in. this morning we went windsurfing, and yet again george fell in, although it isnt really a hardship seeing as the water is warm. luckily we have seen no bugs or beasties (other than the boys in the morning) and no-body isnt having fun :]

Saturday, 2 June 2012

we are having meatballs and spag-bol for dinner tonight. yum.
yayy, all is well. everyone is having fun and finally the blog is working. i think everyone has a tanline but no red paches yet. on our arrival within the first 10 minuests we had managed to breack the bagging system on terminal 5 due to HEAVY bags and sails.
the second we got of the plane vagelis was there and it all went well. this morning everyone went windsurfing at 9:00, it was graet, clark was a naturel. tommorow morning we are going paddle boarding and soon wake boarding and dounuting. its a bit like a wake up in the morning before they all go sailing with the greek team
the venue is amazing, it was 31 degrees yesterday and the water colour is like the colour of one of those cartoon islands seas. we had a tour of volgameni yesterday with vagelis, just past our appartments is the no.1 waffle resaturant in greece, we will go there tommorow, max and alex are really excited. at the moment they are in the de-breaf and i am sitting on the pontoon, i will post some pictures soon once i get the camera back from mum. you will envy us.
